What should I expect my first massage session?

We will begin with a brief client-intake form and get to know you. Massage is not safe for all medical conditions so it is preferred that you speak with your healthcare provider if you have any questions. During the intake, we will discuss areas you may be experiencing pain and/or tightness.

After the intake we will begin the massage. Massage can make some clients lightheaded due to moving fluids around the body. After the massage please take your time to sit up slowly before standing and walking. It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids to eliminate lactic acid.

What do I do during a massage? Where do I put my arms?

Lay in a comfortable position. We will almost always ask clients to start face-down. You can put your arms on the table, hanging off the table, around your head, etc. We will move your arms/legs/etc. as needed. During the massage, please tell us when you need more or less pressure in a specific area.

How often should I get a massage?

Every body is different and every situation is different. If you aren’t having pain on a regular basis, then once if a 30-day period is sufficient for most clients. If you have a condition that needs to be addressed more frequently, Jen Allen Tampa Massage can suggest a schedule that works for you.

Do I have to listen to whale calls or flutes during my massage?

This is your massage and we want you to fully enjoy environment and the massage. Jen Allen Tampa Massage uses Pandora for music. We will tune your station of choice (even Metallica if it helps relax you). Also, you are welcome to use your iPod/iPhone and connect it to the speaker. Don’t hesitate to ask.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

You will be under a cover and sheet at all times. The only area that will be exposed is the area we’re currently massaging. You are welcome to leave your underwear (not bra please) on if you prefer. If you need glute work then it is preferred that you do not have underwear on, however we can work around them.

When should I NOT get a massage?

Since massage moves fluid throughout the body, it is never a good idea to interrupt a healing process. This goes for illness and inflammation (including sunburn). The first trimester of pregnancy is another time that you should let your body relax. Additionally, if you have a skin condition that is contagious or irritable it is best to cancel the massage or avoid that area completely.

What if I need to cancel my massage?

Jen Allen Tampa Massage requests that you cancel your appointment at least 12 hours in advance, in order to not be charged for your massage. We understand there are times when it is unavoidable and this is handled on a case-by-case basis. You may cancel online or by phone.

What if I am running late?

At Jen Allen Tampa Massage we schedule appointments 30 minutes apart to allow for additional services or slight tardiness. We try to accommodate when we can. If tardiness becomes a habit, then the appointment time will need to be evaluated and additional time blocks can be reserved following the massage.
